My Favourite Spots in Manitoba

Choosing a location for your engagement session can be tricky. When couples come to me asking for ideas, the first thing I’ll tell them is to think of a location that holds some sort of meaning - it can be where you had your first date, where you got engaged, or somewhere you like to hang out. If that fails to prompt any inspiration, I will ask what kind of “setting” they’re most interested in and send them a list of ideas that I think might work. If you’re in need of some inspiration for your engagement, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favourite spots in Manitoba.

Exchange District/Stephen Juba Park

Filled with so much historic architecture, alleyways and rooftops, the Exchange District is definitely a unique spot for engagement photos.

Birds Hill Park

There’s something so romantic about Birds Hill Park. There’s so many different locations within the park and wide open spaces. This park is perfect for couples that want a little more privacy for their session.

Assiniboine Forest/Assiniboine Park

Conveniently located in Winnipeg, here you’ll find stunning foliage photos along with the conservatory at The Leaf, a serene pond, the Leo Mol Garden Park, and picturesque backgrounds in the forest which is less than a five minute drive from the park.

St Boniface Cathedral

If you’re drawn to something timeless and a little romantic, St. Boniface Cathedral is such a beautiful choice. The stone ruins and grand archways give your photos a soft, almost European feel, and there’s something really special about the way the light hits the structure at golden hour. It’s peaceful, historic, and effortlessly romantic - perfect if you want images that feel classic but still a little moody and unique.

These are some of my favourite spots for engagement sessions because they each bring something a little different to the table. From lush gardens and quiet forest trails to the energy of Winnipeg streets and everything in between, you’ll find a setting that actually feels like you as a couple.

The goal is never just pretty photos (although you’ll definitely get those), but a relaxed, fun experience where you can be yourselves and enjoy the time together. The best images always come from that - moments that feel natural, honest, and true to your relationship.

The Forks

The Forks is one of those spots that just feels like Winnipeg. You’ve got the river, the bridges, cobblestone paths, and tons of little pockets that all photograph so differently depending on the season and light. It works so well if you want a mix of urban energy and natural scenery in one session. Plus, it’s easy to move around, which keeps things relaxed and fun while you explore together.
